A global initiative has been declared to celebrate International Literature Day annually on June 9, honoring the enduring power of literature.

International Literature Day (ILD) is being established to globally recognize the power of words and the art of expressing human emotion. ILD celebrates the diversity of languages and words, timeless stories and novels, the revolutionary power of poetry, and the deep connection between people through literature. The mission of ILD is to inspire literary conversation, elevate new voices, preserve linguistic diversity, and unite cultures and communities through the transformative power of literature.

International Literature Day was founded by Julius Choudhury, a prominent writer, journalist, entrepreneur, and founder of Literature Omnibus. The initiative was first introduced on June 9, 2025, during the founding meeting of Literature Omnibus, a creative platform dedicated to commemorating the elegance of expression and the freedom of thought. At the meeting, Julius Choudhury proposed June 9 as the annual date for celebrating International Literature Day.

The proposal was formally announced on June 21, 2025, at the first literary conference of Literature Omnibus at the Gazipur Media Center Auditorium, where Julius Choudhury officially declared that International Literature Day would be celebrated worldwide each year on June 9. The declaration was endorsed by Saba Murtaz, a writer, journalist, researcher, and co-founder of Literature Omnibus, and by Mohammed Ahsan Habib, a retired marine engineer, poet, journalist, researcher, and publisher, along with others who share the same belief that literature is a bridge connecting people and societies.

On June 9, 2026, the inaugural celebration of ILD will be observed worldwide, with literary and literature aficionados through local initiatives to celebrate the joy of literature. Leaders and members of Literature Omnibus, along with writers, researchers, and creative professionals from every part of the world, have implemented a comprehensive action plan to promote literary engagement, organize events, and coordinate celebrations.

This website, LiteratureDay.org, is being developed to serve as the central platform for ILD's global presence, including event information, resources, and guidelines. It will be a platform to connect with literary and fellow literature lovers.

Join the movement. Step into a world where words unite, creativity thrives, and literature builds connections across cultures. Be part of history in the making.

Celebrate the power of words—online or offline, wherever you are!
