International Literature Day

An initiative has been taken to celebrate International Literature Day each year, on June 9.

International Literature Day (ILD) is being established to globally recognize the power of words and the art of expressing human emotion. ILD celebrates the diversity of languages and words, timeless stories and novels, the revolutionary power of poetry, and the deep connection between people through literature. The mission of ILD is to inspire literary conversation, elevate new voices, preserve the richness of languages, and unite cultures and communities through literature's transformative force.

The initiative was first introduced on June 9, 2025, during the founding of Literature Omnibus, a creative platform to commemorate the elegance of expression and freedom of thought. International Literature Day (ILD) was founded by Julius Choudhury, a prominent writer, journalist, entrepreneur, and founder of Literature Omnibus. He envisioned a global convergence of cultures, readers, writers, and literary contributions, united into a single, vibrant tapestry.

The movement received steadfast support from writers, poets, journalists, researchers, artists, and cultural organizations worldwide, including luminaries like Saba Binte Murtaz (Writer, Journalist, Researcher and Cofounder of Literature Omnibus) and among others who share the belief that literature is the bridge connecting people and societies.

On June 9, 2026, the first-ever International Literature Day (ILD) will be celebrated worldwide, with literary and literature aficionados through local initiatives to celebrate the joy of literature. The leaders and members of Literature Omnibus, along with writers, researchers, and creative professionals from every part of the world, have implemented a comprehensive action plan to encourage engagement with literature, plan events, and celebrate International Literature Day.

This website, LiteratureDay.org, is being developed to serve as the central platform for ILD's global presence, event information, resources, and guidelines. It will be a platform to connect with literary and fellow literature lovers.
